My test date is coming up soon – Tuesday Nov 10th. I’m looking at it as my first substantial step in a (hopefully not too) long process.
I think I’m ready. I’ve got a good grasp of the necessary concepts, although I still need to work on memorizing many of the ticky-tack details. Overall I’m fairly confident and excited.
Here’s what I’m using to prepare:
- CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Certification Guide by Odom/Healy/Mehta – I’m using this as the base of my studying. I’ve read it twice. As I get closer to my exam date, I’ve taken to reading a single chapter at a time. I then consult my other sources to get another angle at the technology in question and to help fill in some blanks.
- Routing TCP/IP Volume I and Routing TCP/IP Volume II both by Jeff Doyle – The classics. Can I say anything else about these books that hasn’t already been said somewhere? Great stuff. By all accounts these are “must-haves”.
- The CCIE Study Wiki – Where else would I go to review my notes?
- Cisco Documentation – Probably the best source of info for the unique v4.0 topics out there right now.
- CCIE Krzysztof Zaleski’s CCIE Routing and Switching Quick Review Kit – A fantastic .pdf that lets me give myself a quick review of CCIE exam topics. More geared towards the lab exam, but useful for the written nonetheless.
- Also for quick review I’ll consult the high quality (and free) cheatsheets at Packlife.net.
Will all this be enough? Or will this exam whip me like a red-headed stepchild? I’ll soon find out…. However if you feel there’s something I’m missing or would like to recommend, please let me know.
