Introducing the CCIE Study Wiki

As you may recall from a previous post, my main professional goal currently is to attain the  CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) Routing and Switching certification. I’ve been saying this for a while now, but really only have been studying truly seriously for a few months now. It feels good to be walking the path. I KNOW I’m going to get there someday, but I also know its not going to be easy.

As I started digging in and really studying, I soon found myself overwhelmed. I was faced with a slew of  unorganized bookmarks to various technology articles and CCIE blogs, as well as pages of haphazard notes on a wide range of CCIE topics. I felt strongly that I needed a better way to organize my info, and so like any good techie geek I began to explore ways I could arrange my notes online.

Pretty quickly I decided that the wiki format was the ideal organization structure for this kind of information. After a few false starts, I found a wiki software solution that really seemed to work, and I’ve been dumping notes and  links into it ever since. It wasn’t too long after I started when I realized that others out there might benefit from access to the wiki, and that opening the site up to everyone might make for something pretty awesome. Thus was born the CCIE Study Wiki.

I made that all sound pretty simple, didn’t I? I only wish that were the case.

There’s a HUGE difference between throwing some notes and links up there for yourself and posting something that you expect to be read and utilized by others. I often questioned the wisdom of what I was doing, but my steely determination (or what my wife calls my slight case of OCD) held firm. The wiki is to the point now where I think there’s a lot of good stuff there, and it should be more then worth a visit from your average CCIE candidate. Please check it out if this describes you.

Just keep in mind, the wiki is still a work in progress. Some pages are great, some are just OK, and some are pretty much empty. I’m absolutely sure I’ve made an error or two (or ten) along the way. Try to be gentle with me. On the other hand, you’ll find some notes or links on at least 90% of the topics on the CCIE R+S exam right now (out of over 300 pages) , so there’s a good chance you be able to find some kind of useful information there.

If you do see any errors, or need to make a comment, or feel like contributing any hints, tips, or articles yourself, please let me know! I’ll be happy to post anything for you. If you really want to get involved, you can register for your own wiki account and post pretty much anything you want yourself. I’m planning on this wiki being around for a long time, I would love for this to become a real collaboration between us CCIE candidates.

Thanks for listening to me ramble. I hope to hear from some of you soon!
